TACA Unveils New Image

Airline to Provide New Services on Board and on the Ground

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TACA, the international airline with a 77-year history in Central, South and North America, unveiled last week its new brand image and a series of new services on board and on the ground as it seeks to provide a new customer experience and compete in a demanding and competitive airline industry.

Before an audience of hundreds of guests including international press, dignitaries, business partners, frequent flyers and through a live broadcast via satellite to hundreds of TACA employees across the Americas, TACA Chairman and CEO Roberto Kriete introduced the new brand identity by unveiling a new AIRBUS plane showing the freshly painted logo on the tail and body of the plane. The event, held in a hangar at the El Salvador International Airport also included a fashion show featuring the new uniforms for TACA staff designed by internationally acclaimed Colombian designer Isabel Henao.

“At TACA we’re undergoing a complete transformation to gain customer preference,” said Roberto Kriete, Chairman and CEO of TACA. “We’re aware of the complex economic conditions that our industry is facing around the world, but these changes are meant to continue strengthening our airline; they’re part of a long-term business strategy and the result of extensive research.”

Kriete told the audience that TACA has spent the last two and a half years listening carefully to customers, employees and partners, and that this strategy is the company’s intent to have TACA become the airline of choice for today’s modern traveler.

With 39 destinations to 22 countries in North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean, TACA will begin to offer passengers a new experience that includes improvements to onboard services, fleet upgrades and an overhaul of the airline’s customer service philosophy.

“Our goal is to offer our customers world-class service that we hope they begin to discover at every touch point with our employees; on the phone, in person or on board,” said Estuardo Ortiz, TACA’s Commercial Vice President. “This means a complete image makeover, but also implies a transformation of our products and our service culture to foster a positive emotional connection with the TACA brand and the overall experience we want to offer our customers across the Americas for years to come.”

This new repositioning strategy has been a collaborative process. The new brand identity was developed by TACA’s marketing team with the help of New York-based Lippincott, one of the world’s leading brand management consulting firms.

The new uniforms were created by Colombian designer Isabel Henao, who has worked with many world-renowned companies and whose creations have been featured in runways from Fashion Week Madrid to Colombiamoda.

“With this new image we wanted to convey a feeling of warmth, dynamism and passion,” said Sarah Sandoval, Marketing Director, TACA. “Our customers will see a more modern image on planes, collateral material, signage and uniforms. We look forward to embarking on this new journey for the benefit of our customers throughout their experience with our brand.”

“TACA is an international airline that connects three Americas which strives to offer world-class service that’s welcoming, friendly and efficient for today’s modern traveler,” added Sandoval.

Aeroman ACTS is one of the few maintenance centers in the world which comes highly recommended by Airbus Industries.

TACA’s REGIONAL business unit complements our airline’s Central American network. With a fleet of 30 propeller planes seating 12-50 passengers, REGIONAL operates close to 150 flights per day. REGIONAL services small and medium-sized destinations from Cancun, Mexico to the north, to Panama’s San Blas Islands to the south.

An agreement with United Airlines offers varied travel options by transparently combining segments serviced by both airlines. The airlines maintain complementary route networks which give passengers access to destinations all over the world. First Airbus final assembly line outside Europe inaugurated in Tianjin, China
28 September 2008

Airbus, today, officially opened its first final assembly line outside of Europe. The Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, together with the Party's Secretary of Tianjin, Zhang Gaoli and Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders inaugurated the Airbus A320 Family Final Assembly Line in Tianjin, China (FALC) at a grand ceremony with over 600 guests.

The final assembly line is a joint venture between Airbus and a Chinese consortium comprising Tianjin Free Trade Zone (TJFTZ) and China Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC).

"The Tianjin final assembly line for Airbus A320 Family aircraft has been set as a paradigm of Sino-European friendship and cooperation. Based on mutual trust and close-knit cooperation, the two parties have commenced the final assembly of the first aircraft within only one year and three months from the beginning of the facility construction till present and created a miracle in the history of this giant project," said Huang Xingguo, mayor of Tianjin.

"The opening of the FALC is an historic event for Airbus and for the aviation industry," said Tom Enders, President and CEO of Airbus. "The first Airbus final assembly line outside Europe highlights the importance we attach to growing our partnership with China, one of the most important aviation markets today and certainly tomorrow."

The FALC in Tianjin is based on the latest state-of-the-art Airbus single aisle final assembly line in Hamburg, Germany. The aircraft will be assembled and delivered in China to the same standards as those assembled and delivered in Europe.

The first aircraft assembled in the FALC will be delivered to Sichuan Airlines through Dragon Aviation Leasing in mid 2009. The FALC will ramp up production to four aircraft a month by 2011.

The FALC is a demonstration of Airbus' commitment to forging a long-term strategic partnership with China. Six Chinese manufacturers are already involved in manufacturing parts, such as wing components, emergency-exit doors and assembly and transportation tools for Airbus aircraft. In 2007 alone, Airbus sourced $70 million worth of high quality components and materials from Chinese companies. By 2010, Airbus purchasing from the Chinese aviation industry will almost treble to $200 million, before more than doubling again to $450 million by 2015.

By the end of August, there were 351 Airbus A320 Family aircraft in operation with 12 operators in China and over 400 on order.

The A320 Family, which includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, is recognized as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. Each aircraft features fly by wire controls and all share a unique cockpit and operational commonality across the range. More than 6,300 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been sold and more than 3,500 delivered to some 280 customers and operators worldwide, making it the world's best selling commercial jetliner ever. With proven reliability and extended servicing periods, the A320 Family has the lowest operating costs of any single aisle aircraft. Uniquely, the A320 Family offers a containerized cargo system, which is compatible with the world wide standard wide-body system.

Premiere chaine d’assemblage final Airbus hors d’europe inauguree a Tianjin en Chine
28 September 2008

Erste Airbus-endmontagelinie ausserhalb Europas in Tianjin, China, eingeweiht
28 September 2008

Boeing Completes 787 Dreamliner 'High Blow' Test

EVERETT, Wash., Sept. 27, 2008 -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] successfully completed a high-pressure test, known as "high blow," on the 787 Dreamliner static test airframe at its Everett factory today. The test is one of three static tests that must be cleared prior to first flight. During the test, the airframe reached an internal pressure of 150 percent of the maximum levels expected to be seen in service - 14.9 lbs. per square inch (1.05 kilograms per centimeter) gauge (psig). It took nearly two hours to complete the test, as pressure was slowly increased to ensure the integrity of the airplane.

"We had every confidence going into this test because of the extensive work we've done on larger and larger pieces of composite - from small coupons to fuselage sections," said Pat Shanahan, vice president and general manager of the 787 program. "Still, it's very rewarding to see a whole airplane being tested and having the results we expected.

"I am so proud of the team that has worked on this program and the progress we are making."

Boeing and AeroLogic Partner to Streamline Carrier's Maintenance Operations

MADRID, Spain, Sept. 25, 2008 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] announced today at MRO Europe that AeroLogic has adopted the airplane manufacturer's Web-based solutions, Maintenance Performance Toolbox and Airplane Health Management, as foundations for the carrier's 777 Freighter maintenance documentation platform when deliveries begin in 2009.

Maintenance Performance Toolbox, including the Library and Authoring modules, will help AeroLogic, based in Leipzig/Halle, Germany, streamline an array of maintenance activities, including managing technical publications and training and customizing online maintenance manuals.

A total of 14 European carriers now use this innovative maintenance tool. AeroLogic will use Boeing's Airplane Health Management to monitor its 777 Freighters, giving the airline a real-time fault management tool to identify maintenance needs and communicate with ground teams to enable proactive, planned and timely maintenance operations and address potential issues.

"Boeing has exactly the right tools to help us build a lean, competitive cargo carrier," said AeroLogic Maintenance Director Christian Schmucker. "It is important to bring our customers a service that utilizes the very latest maintenance technology, meeting our ceaseless commitment to reducing our operating costs while improving our productivity and performance."

The combination of Toolbox and AHM provides a complementary ability to enhance productivity in airline maintenance and engineering operations.

"AeroLogic's strong commitment to efficiently managing its maintenance practices using our latest e-Enabled tools provides a great endorsement of Boeing as a lifecycle solutions partner," said Dan da Silva, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Boeing Commercial Aviation Services.

Toolbox and AHM are key components within Boeing's evolving portfolio of performance-enhancing solutions for airplane maintenance. Toolbox access is through Boeing's secure Internet portal, MyBoeingFleet.com. Only an Internet connection, password and computer - a laptop, desktop or pen tablet - are necessary to access the system as a secured, hosted service.

AeroLogic GmbH is jointly owned by DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo AG, with each company holding a 50 percent stake. The airline, which was founded in September 2007, developed from the joint venture set up by the two partners in 2004. AeroLogic's cargo capacities will be used primarily by DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo. The two partners also will be responsible for sales and warehouse handling.

Boeing Solution to Enable British Airways' Efficiency, Environmental Gain

MADRID, Spain, Sept. 24, 2008 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] will provide a Performance Improvement Package for British Airways' 777 fleet that will result in a one percent fuel efficiency gain, along with the emission reductions that come with reduced fuel usage. The package will be applied to the airline's 42-airplane 777 fleet.

The 777 Performance Improvement Package is expected to reduce fuel spending per aircraft by about $200,000 annually (assuming $100 per barrel crude oil prices), according to Boeing estimates.

"Any cost-effective measures to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions are to be welcomed and we're pleased to be working with Boeing on this initiative across our 777 fleet," said Robert Boyle, commercial director, British Airways.

"Helping our customers operate their airplanes at optimum efficiency is at the heart of our lifecycle solutions," said Dan da Silva, vice president of Sales, Boeing Commercial Aviation Services. "The 777 is among the most efficient, environmentally progressive airplanes in operation, but we must continue to pursue these performance gains."

The key elements of the 777 Performance Improvement Package are the addition of a drooped aileron and a ram air system. In addition, Boeing will provide redesigned wing vortex generators.

Boeing expects the package to be certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration in 2009.

The 777 upgrade package is focused on the 777-200, -200ER and -300 models, accounting for more than 500 airplanes. The newer 777 models, the 777-200LR, -300ER and Freighter, incorporate the upgrades during factory production.

Boeing continues to work with customers to optimize fuel efficiency on its in-service fleet, through both aftermarket upgrades and operational improvements.

Boeing's New Environmental Improvement Has Big Impact on European Carriers

Small changes, big fuel savings

MADRID, Spain, Sept. 24, 2008 -- Since the beginning of 2008, seven airlines adopted The Boeing Company's [NYSE: BA] new Performance Improvement Package (PIP) for their 777 fleets. The Performance Improvement Package, scheduled for an April 2009 introduction into service, is committed on 10 Boeing 777 fleets totaling 170 airplanes. The improved fuel burn eliminates three million pounds (1,360,800 kilograms) of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per airplane each year, further reducing the environmental impact of air travel.

Continental Airlines, Air New Zealand, and Delta Air Lines were the first to adopt the innovative improvement package when it was introduced in late 2007. This year, El Al Israel Airlines, Austrian Airlines AG, Air France, KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines and British Airways have signed for the PIP. Two of the seven 2008 customers are unidentified.

The PIP package includes low-profile vortex generators, improved RAM air system and drooped ailerons.

Feedback from customers indicates that significant fuel savings and an opportunity to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions made investing in PIP a straightforward decision.

"We provide innovative products and services to our customers that help them improve the efficiency and reliability of their Boeing airplanes," said Per Norèn, Commercial Aviation Services vice president of Environmental Strategy. "Operational efficiencies become environmental efficiencies and the aviation community can contribute to a cleaner future."

The Boeing Company is the world's leading aerospace and defense company, providing products and services to customers in 145 countries. Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, a unit of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, provides LIFECYCLE SOLUTIONS to improve operational and environmental efficiency, including fleet utilization, reduce costs, leverage leading-edge information and ensure passenger well-being.

A "brilliant" send-off for Qantas' no. 1 A380
19 September 2008

Airbus today commemorated the handover of Qantas' first A380 with a dazzling light show held at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse, France. The Australian carrier becomes the third international airline to add Airbus' 21st century flagship to its fleet.

"There are few airlines in the world as qualified as Qantas to be aviation pioneers," said Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders, who spoke at the evening event. "Qantas uses its experience as one of the great trendsetters in world aviation to keep pushing the boundaries, and it was quite natural they would be the first to conclude a contract to buy the A380."

Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon praised the A380, calling it the most innovative, most functional and most intelligent aircraft in the sky.

"We recognised the operational and economic advantages that the A380 could deliver long before they were rather dramatically illustrated by the escalating cost of fuel," said Dixon. "And we certainly knew that the A380 would give us the opportunity to reinvent our on-board product consistent with our tradition of being a very competent long-haul carrier."

To commemorate the formal handover, Enders presented Dixon with a limited-edition A380 pen, while Rolls-Royce Chairman Simon Robertson bestowed a laser etching of the Trent 900 engine encased in glass on a walnut base.

"We at Rolls-Royce appreciate the opportunity once again to be an integral player in shaping the future success of Qantas, Australia's iconic carrier and one of the world's leading airlines," said Robertson, whose company supplies the Trent 900 engines that power Qantas' A380.

The evening's event concluded with a unique light show using the parked A380 as a backdrop, superimposing complex colour schemes, videos of the aircraft's production process and images of Australian landmarks on the aircraft's fuselage, wings and engines.

Following tonight's ceremony, the A380 was to depart Toulouse for Sydney, making an in-route stopover at Singapore. Qantas is scheduled to begin A380 commercial service in the second half of October, flying from Melbourne and Sydney to Los Angeles on the American west coast.

A380 ticks all the boxes for Qantas
19 September 2008

As Qantas takes delivery of its first A380 today, the carrier is already is in discussions with Airbus on potentially increasing its existing 20-aircraft order. According to Qantas Chief Executive Officer Geoff Dixon, the A380 is the perfect aircraft for the airline's long-haul routes.

The delivery of Qantas' first A380 marks the start of a new era for the Australian-based carrier, according to Chief Executive Officer Geoff Dixon.

At a press conference ahead of this evening's A380 handover at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse, Dixon told journalists that the A380 ticks every box for Qantas and its customers, for passenger comfort, range, environmental concerns and yield.

The A380 will be 20 to 25 per cent more efficient than existing aircraft in the Qantas fleet, he continued, adding that the airline was already in talks to increase its total order, which currently stands at 20 aircraft even before the first one had entered service.

"We watched the A380's introduction by Singapore Airlines and couldn't be more pleased about the results," he said. "Expanding our order shows our commitment to the aircraft."

The first Qantas A380 is named after 92 year-old Australian aviation pioneer Nancy Bird-Walton who gained her commercial pilot's licence at the age of just 19. Nancy, who flew an air ambulance service in the 1930s in New South Wales, will attend a special naming ceremony for the aircraft in Sydney on 30 September.

Describing the Qantas A380 as the perfect aircraft for long-haul travel, Geoff said that Qantas is confident the A380 will give it a real competitive advantage long into the future.

Speaking alongside him was Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders, who thanked Geoff Dixon and Qantas for their faith in the A380 right from the start.

"Geoff was the first to really sign up for the A380 back in 2000," Enders said. "And he held fast to his belief that this aircraft was right for the future of Qantas. I am really looking forward to seeing Qantas A380s roaming the skies over the Asia Pacific region."

The A330's growing presence in India
17 September 2008

Kingfisher Airlines' introduction of A330-200 service on its Bangalore-London route is another milestone for the twin-engine aircraft's increasing importance in the Indian travel market. Other A330-200 operators and customers include Jet Airways, Air India and Flyington Freighters.

This month's inauguration of Kingfisher Airlines' A330-200 service on its Bangalore-London route illustrates the A330's increasing role in expanding international services from the fast-growing Indian travel market.

Kingfisher will have five A330-200s in service by the end of 2008, serving additional markets such as Singapore and Hong Kong.

Another Indian carrier, Jet Airways, is the country's largest A330 operator, with 10 A330 aircraft in service - plus another two scheduled for delivery later in 2008. Its A330-200 route network is growing to include service from Delhi to Brussels and onto Toronto and New York; Delhi and Mumbai to Dubai; as well as Mumbai-Hong Kong and Chennai-Kuala Lumpur

Air India also operates two A330-200s on services from India to East Asia and Europe.

When deliveries of all firm orders are completed, nearly 50 A330s will be operated by Indian carriers, including 12 of the new Airbus A330-200Fs cargo aircraft with Flyington Freighters.

Tom Enders supports Toulouse's candidature for 2013
12 September 2008

The candidature of Toulouse as European Capital of Culture has been backed by personalities that include Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders. As part of Airbus’ support, a Beluga transporter aircraft has been painted in a special livery.

Airbus President and CEO, Tom Enders alongside the Mayor of Toulouse is among the ten personalities who support the candidature of Toulouse as European Capital of Culture in 2013. The last phase of this candidature, a presentation to a jury, is taking place on 16 September in Paris.

As President of "Le Club des Entreprises Partenaires de Toulouse 2013," Tom Enders represents the support of the economic world for this candidature. Explaining why he was personally involved, he stated: "I am happy and proud to support this initiative as it is based on three themes extremely meaningful for us: Europe, culture and development.

"There are few things as personally or professionally stimulating as being able to benefit from the melting pot of culture, knowledge and passion to be found in cities like Toulouse.

"The impressive mix of nationalities coming here to work and learn mean that city’s cultural programme is open to whole range of different influences. There can be few places in Europe as diverse and as cosmopolitan as Toulouse or as deserving of the accolade of European Capital of Culture.

"Airbus wants to be closely involved in the future of Toulouse, to give back to a city that has always given us so much. We have the capacity, we have the willingness and, through Toulouse’s candidature and the projects that will drive its vision for the next 15 years, we have the means," he concluded.

As part of this campaign, the Beluga has been adorned with a special livery with which it criss-crosses the European skies.

A380 completes 1,000th commercial flight with Singapore Airlines
5 August 2008

Singapore Airlines has completed its 1,000th commercial service with the A380, the world's largest civil aircraft. The flight, operating as SQ 322, arrived at London Heathrow at 06.00 this morning following a non-stop scheduled service from Singapore.

Singapore Airlines has completed its 1,000th commercial service with the A380, the world's largest civil aircraft. The flight, operating as SQ 322, arrived at London Heathrow at 06.00 this morning following a non-stop scheduled service from Singapore.

Since the first aircraft entered service with Singapore Airlines on 25 October 2007, the carrier's A380 fleet has grown to five aircraft. Together the aircraft have already accumulated 8,500 flight hours in service and almost 400,000 Singapore Airlines customers have already flown on the A380, with overwhelmingly positive feedback. The high level of passenger interest and demand has seen the carrier record load factors in excess of 90% on flights operated with the type.

Singapore Airlines now operates the A380 on daily services from Singapore to London, Sydney and Tokyo. In addition, the carrier is this week operating a schedule of special daily services to Beijing in order to meet demand in the run-up to the Olympic Games.

To date 140 pilots from the airline are already flying the aircraft, with training now being increased in preparation for future deliveries.

Singapore Airlines has placed total firm orders for 19 A380s, plus six options.

New fibre placement machine tested in Nantes
2 September 2008

Airbus' Nantes site - which is one of three specialist composite centres for parent company EADS - has been conducting a cooperative research project to develop new machinery for the manufacture of aerospace composite materials.

Following two years of development, the partnership with Forest-Liné and Coriolis has designed a new machine capable of producing complex structures such as fuselage panels for the A350 XWB and future programmes.

This machine can simultaneously provide an output of 32 6.35-mm. wide resin-impregnated carbon fibres. The reduced size of this composite-fibre "tape" allows extreme precision and helps overcome potential difficulties when tackling complex parts.

In addition to its high level of precision, the machine can produce 8 kilos of composite per hour.

This new system, patented by Coriolis, is a significant step forward for composites technology. With the machine, carbon fibres are now driven into - and protected by - individual flexible tubes, which hold them in place and prevent them from being bent during manufacturing. The concept already has been used to produce several high quality demonstrator fuselage panels for the A350.

The machinery also is simpler and more compact than current practices, allowing the use of robots or gantry cranes which can be easily integrated into a lean manufacturing set up.

Opening a new transport route to China
25 August 2008

This summer's arrival of the first aircraft sections at Airbus' new final assembly line in Tianjin, China marked the successful conclusion of almost two years of logistical planning and equipment design.

An Airbus team has been instrumental in working with the Chinese consortium to ensure that the best transport solutions are in place for these sections. Top-level requirements, such as the verification that components would never be disassembled from the jig during transport - as well as cost-effectiveness - were taken into account when decisions were made on the transportation process.

The relatively small size and weight of the sections make it possible to transport them in container liners. The team also developed special jigs and tools to avoid damage during the month-long transit, and worked with shipping carriers to test and validate the processes upstream.

Air Caraibes launches the A350-1000 in Europe
15 September 2008

French Caribbean carrier Air Caraïbes has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for three A350-1000 aircraft, and is with this purchase decision becoming the European launch customer for the largest version of the A350 XWB.

The aircraft will be operated on the airline's network from Paris to the islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique and soon to French Guyana. They will be configured in three classes with a total of 440 seats.

"The A350 XWB will continue the track record of spectacular efficiency and low operating costs we already experience with the A330", said Jean-Paul Dubreuil, President of Air Caraïbes. "Aircraft commonality, which is unique to Airbus aircraft, will allow our pilots to transition efficiently to the A350 XWB. Most importantly, this aircraft assures lowest fuel burn, which perfectly matches our growth strategy," he added.

Air Caraïbes already operates a young all Airbus long haul fleet of two A330-200s and one A330-300, with three more aircraft of the same type (A330-300) on order. As the airline continues to add capacity on their popular long haul routes, the A350-1000 will become the backbone of the fleet.

"The A350 XWB is not only the most efficient aircraft with lowest fuel consumption on the market today. It is also the aircraft which best meets airlines' needs in terms of range and capacity" said John Leahy, Airbus COO Customers. "Air Caraïbe's decision to acquire our long-haul star is yet another proof of the A350 XWB delivering exactly what the market needs."

Air Caraïbes operates approximately 20 flights per week out of the Paris hub, serving Guadeloupe and Martinique and from there an extensive inter-Caribbean islands route network including, Santa Lucia, Saint Martin, Saint Bartholomew, the Dominican Republic, as well as routes to Costa Rica and Panama. The airline distinguishes itself by offering extra comfort with individual TV screens and on demand video systems in all classes.

The A350 XWB (Xtra Wide-Body) Family is Airbus' response to widespread market demand for a series of highly efficient medium-capacity long-range wide-body aircraft. With a range of up to 8,300 nm / 15,400 km, it is available in three basic passenger versions: the A350-800, the A350-900 and the A350-1000.

The A350 XWB has the widest fuselage in its category, offering unprecedented levels of comfort, the lowest operating costs and lowest seat mile cost of any aircraft in this market segment. Powered by two new generation Rolls Royce Trent XWB engines delivering each up to 92,000 lbs of thrust, the A350 XWB Family is designed to confront the challenges of high fuel prices, rising passenger expectations, and environmental concerns.

Airbus announces Power 8+
9 September 2008

Airbus has presented today to its European Work Council (ECA) the Power8+ programme. It is designed to deliver cost savings of € 650 Mio. in 2012, adding to the Power8 target of € 2.1 bn for 2010. Power8+ will be partly achieved by extending the Power8 initiatives up to 2012 (€ 350 Mio.) and partly by further internationalisation of engineering and manufacturing work (€ 300 Mio.). Power8+ does not envisage social plans for further headcount reductions. Power8+ is Airbus' contribution to EADS' € 1 bn cost cutting initiative.

"Power8 is the centre piece in Airbus' restructuring and integration efforts and we have been very successful in achieving our targets so far," says Tom Enders, Airbus President and CEO. "However, markets and competition remain challenging. Further measures to improve our cost base and overall efficiency are necessary to secure the long-term competitiveness of our company. By pushing forward with internationalisation we secure growth, we take advantage of lower cost structures, we access talent on a world-wide basis and, simultaneously, support employment and core competences in Europe."

This A319 is the first of three aircraft of this type to be delivered to the young and dynamic airline, and is part of an order signed in 2006, which also includes 11 A320s and three long range A330-200s. To date two A320s have also been delivered to the airline. In 2007, Afriqiyah signed another firm contract for six A350XWB aircraft to further expand their growing international long haul network.

The A319 will be integrated into Afriqiyah's all Airbus fleet, and be deployed from their hub in Tripoli, from where Afriqiyah operates non-stop key routes in Europe such as Paris, Brussels, Geneva, London, Rome and Amsterdam, as well as to 17 destinations in North-, West- and Central Africa and the Middle East. The aircraft is configured to seat 124 passengers in a very comfortable two-class configuration and is powered by CFM56-5B engines.

"After having received our A320s which are doing extremely well in our fleet, we are very much looking forward to continue this excellent track record with the A319. With its low operating costs and high passenger comfort these aircraft are a key tool in our long term strategy to further develop our market position", Captain Sabri, CEO of Afriqiyah Airways said. "The commonality of all Airbus aircraft gives us the flexibility to interchange the aircraft according to our needs, to optimise operations and maintenance."

John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers, added: "Since Afriqiyah Airways first entered the market in 2001, this airline has experienced an impressive increase in routes and passengers. We are delighted to be part of that and congratulate Afriqiyah on their successful growth strategy. With the A330 and the A350 deliveries to follow, we are looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership."

The A320 Family, which includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, is recognized as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. Each aircraft features fly by wire controls and all share a unique cockpit and operational commonality across the range. Around 6,300 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been sold and more than 3,500 delivered to some 280 customers and operators worldwide, making it the worlds best selling commercial jetliner ever.

SAS joins aviation, energy and academic leaders to accelerate development and availability of sustainable biofuels

Environmental groups applaud effort to develop sustainable fuel alternatives

SAS, with other leading air carriers, Boeing and Honeywell's UOP, a refining
technology developer, established a group to accelerate the development and
commercialization of sustainable new aviation fuels.

With support and advice from the world's leading environmental organizations,
the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the
Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group makes commercial aviation the first global
transportation sector to voluntarily drive verifiable sustainability practices
into its fuel supply chain.

The group's charter is to enable the commercial use of renewable fuel sources
that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while lessening commercial aviation's
exposure to oil price volatility and dependence on fossil fuels. Airlines
supporting the sustainable fuels initiative include Air France, Air New Zealand,
All Nippon Airways, Cargolux, Continental Airlines, Gulf Air, Japan Airlines,
KLM, SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways. Collectively, they
account for more than 15 percent of commercial jet fuel use.

"We welcome the aviation sector's will to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions,
and appreciate their efforts to ensure the sustainability of their biofuels
sourcing," says Jean-Philippe Denruyter, WWF Global Bioenergy Coordinator and
Steering Board Member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels. "By teaming up
with the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels, the aviation sector can build on an
existing solid multi-stakeholder process that will reinforce this initiative."

All group members subscribe to a sustainability pledge stipulating that any
sustainable biofuel must perform as well as, or better than, kerosene-based
fuel, but with a smaller carbon lifecycle. The user's group pledged to consider
only renewable fuel sources with minimal impacts to the biosphere: fuels that
require minimal land, water and energy to produce, and that don't compete with
food or fresh water resources. In addition, cultivation and harvest of plant
stocks must provide socioeconomic value to the local communities.

"We have for many years been part of a number of research and development
projects regardings renewable biofuels, with the aim to find a long-term
solution for aviation," says Niels Eirik Nertun, Environment Director, SAS
Group. "We bring all this experience into this group and will now put all our
focus on together finding durable and lasting solutions for the future."

The group has announced two initial sustainability research projects. Yale
University's School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, through funding
provided by Boeing, will conduct the first peer-reviewed, comprehensive
sustainability assessment of jatropha curcas, to include lifecycle CO2 emissions
and the socio-economic impacts to farmers in developing nations. Similarly, NRDC
will conduct a comprehensive assessment of algae to ensure it meets the group's
stringent sustainability criteria.

Both species may potentially become part of a portfolio of biomass-based
renewable fuel solutions that, through advanced fuel processing methodologies
developed by energy sector leaders such as UOP, can help aviation diversify its
fuel supply.

"One of the SAS Group's six environmental goals is to be amongst the first
airlines to include renewable biofuel for commercial flights. This is in line
with our already released environmental strategy, which includes halving our
greenhouse gas emission per passenger kilometer by 2020. Now we are one step
closer to realizing our environmental goals," says Niels Eirik Nertun.
